Are you a tea or coffee fan? I personally enjoy both! Coffee most mornings and tea the rest of the day! There are so many flavors and varieties out there that it is both wonderful and overwhelming, so to help you out, here are some of my favorites!
(Please note, these are my personal opinions and recommendations, I have not received anything from these tea companys.)
I do love a variety of Twining’s of London tea. I can usually find a small variety at a local grocery store, but usually I just order them directly from the company. If you sign-up for their newsletter, they will send you codes for discounts and free-shipping.
Another company that I get a bunch of tea from Harney & Sons. I have nevered ordered from their website, instead I purchase their loose leaf teas from Tea Thyme in Door County… they ship too! Harney sells their teas bagged as well if you prefer.
Did you know that today is Young Readers Day? I personally was unaware of such a day, but quite glad it exists! I love reading and I am encouraging the love of books within my children. I feel it is important at every age to slow down from our crazy lives, pull out a book and focus on a new story or lesson. Some books can take you to another part of the world, others a walk through time, which ever you prefer is wonderful!
Sometimes though its hard to know what to read. With so many books out their it can be difficult. Just this week I found my self at the library trying to find a new book. As I happen to be scrolling the shelves, two other ladies began perusing the same aisle. All three of use unsure of what to pick. Sometimes the titles don’t grab us and we’ve been taught never to pick a book by its cover, so how does one choose? How do you choose?
I tend to follow recommendations. Thankfully, I have a great group of friends who all enjoy reading, but they each like very different genres. I will also check out recommendations on Goodreads or the newspaper. Also, if I like a book by an author, I will see what else they may have written too.
But since it is Young Readers Day after all. I will share a few of my favorite YA books.
I can’t believe it’s already the first weekend of November! Time sure does fly. However, I’ve noticed a change in my mailbox lately, there seem to be A LOT more shopping catalogs; which, of course, can only mean one thing… the holiday/shopping season is upon us!
Now, I’m not a big fan of the holiday’s, (I know, I know, but I have my reasons!) but I love giving gifts and taking advantage of all the great sales to be had! With the change of the season into winter, I also enjoying have friends over for cozy dinner parties too.
Perhaps you are already planning your Thanksgiving dinner, or starting your Christmas shopping, but are not quite sure where to start. With that in mind, I’m so excited to release the freebies for this month. I’m excited about them and I hope you are too!
Yes, I said freebies, as in plural. As in two, to be exact!
The first is to help with your dinner party planning and that is a Party Serving Amount printable (download here). Sometimes its hard to figure out how much of a good thing should be served, so here is a guide that I use in planning my own gatherings.
Next up is a Gift List, perfect for when you need to get a bunch of gifts for that family reunion or Christmas. This can be used year round if needed… I do! I use it to keep a running list of gift ideas or gifts I’ve purchased for friends and family. It helps to keep me organized and I’m sure it will do the same for you too! (Download here!)
You may download these from this page, or check out our FREEBIES page for these and other free downloadable sheets.
October has been a wonderful and busy month. The weather turned to fall, the colors of the trees began to pop and change, I was able to go up to Washington Island one more time and of course, take lots of pictures!
I know that I’m not the only one who was busy, so if you where quite busy this month and didn’t have a chance to check out my latest posts, here’s a quick recap of the month:
October has always been one of my favorite months. I think it is one of the most beautiful with the brilliant fall colors and the cool crisp air. Thirteen years ago another reason was made for it to be my favorite month… I got married to my wonderful husband. Now, I’m not going to gush on and on, but I can’t believe its has been 13 years! In that time, we’ve had 2 children, numerous pets and lots of fun. We are also blessed with very supportive families who are very generous and have given us many wonderful gifts.
I know that gift giving can be stressful, so if are trying to come up with ideas for your favorite couple, here’s a good starting point!
If you are looking for something practical, restaurant gift cards are always appreciated. My husband enjoys Home Depot/Menards gift cards too. One practical gift I received was a new set of bathroom towels. After 10 years, it was nice to get a new, plush set!
Ralph Lauren Wescott Bath Towels
One of my favorite gifts that we received was for our 12th anniversary. We were given concert tickets to see The Lumineers! It was wonderful… dinner out, no kids, great music… perfect to reconnect and just enjoy each other’s company.
This one I just got this year and am LOVING it! It is the wireless home speaker: Bose Soundlink Revolve. It was so easy to set up and the sound is just amazing (it comes in white too!).
Bose Soundlink Revolve
Another favorite I like to get and give, are monogrammed items. I have a customized poster of our wedding dates and details that I love, but you could also do personalized trays, glassware, decorative address stampers or embossers. There are so many great ideas!
Personalized Slate Serving Tray Cheese Board
Of course it is always fun to give and get some little trinkets along the way too.
Mr. & Mrs. Ceramic Coffee Mugs
Willow Tree Anniversary Figurine
Sun, Sand and Love, Personalized Photo

This all began many years ago when I was a teenager. I went on my first airplane trip with friends and had never gone through a TSA check before. Well, I learned I had to remove my shoes and found that I was wearing green and white striped toe-socks… yup. At first I was a little embarrassed standing next to my friends and fellow travelers all wearing “normal” socks. But then as I went through security, I heard giggling within this very quiet area. Turns out the TSA agent got a kick out of my socks. Ever since then, I try to find the craziest socks to wear while traveling to bring a little levity to traveling.
What do I look for in a sock? Well, it has to be comfortable of course, but I tend to look for bold and zany colors, sometimes pictures or sayings on them as well. Most of all, if it makes me giggle or look twice while shopping, I know I found a keeper.
Here are a few crazy socks I found while doing some online shopping. Check them out, you just might like them too!
(Clicking on the image will take you too the online shop.)
Color City Women’s Novelty Funny Ankle Socks $10
Blue Q Crew Sock “You’re Killin’ My Vibe” $11.49

Planning a trip and not sure what to pack? Check out our Packing List at Etsy. It makes packing less of a headache and now you won’t worry about what you may have forgotten at home!
I love desserts. Yes I do! I enjoy eating them, but I really enjoy making them. When I worked in an office, I would randomly bring in cupcakes and treats, just because I felt like baking. Baking for me, is way more fun than cooking! Sounds silly, but their really is a difference.
As the weather turns brisk, I find that I enjoy having people over more often. It also seems that we are visiting more people too and its always nice to bring a sweet treat along. With that in mind, I’m sharing my favorite, go-to dessert recipes. I’m not very good at creating my own recipes, so I will include links to the locations that I found these recipes at. I have made them all and loved them all!
(Please note, all recipes can be found by following me on Pinterest. I’ve also included links to the recipes as well.)
First up, is what I call Whiskey Cake, but it is really a Chocolate Chip Cookie Icebox Cake from Martha Stewart. This takes a little planning ahead to make, as it needs to sit overnight, but it is so worth it! (You can find the recipe here.)
Next are the Sangria Cupcakes with a Red Wine Frosting from The First Year Blog. Oh my goodness these are divine! I get requested to make these over and over. One little tip though, be careful when reducing the wine, if you let it go too long it solidifies… learned that the hard way! (You can find the recipe here.)
By now, y’all know I love s’mores, so how could I not have a s’mores recipe here? (Check out our free S’mores Menu!) When I don’t have a bonfire going outside, here is my oven proof one that I can bring and share with others. By trusty ol’ Betty Crocker, you’ll like the Warm Toasted Marshmallow S’Mores Bar. (Find the recipe here.)
I debated which snickerdoodle recipe I like best. Because, really, you can’t go wrong with a snickerdoodle! But I decided to showcase the cupcake version. Yes, you can make Snickerdoodle Cupcakes and tack on that Cinnamon Frosting and they are just amazing! The recipe that I like best is from Real Housemoms. (Check out the recipe here.)
Last, but certainly not least, are Easy Oreo Truffles from Kraft recipes. Three simple ingredients make up these little treats. I made these for an anniversary dessert party and people thought I bought them from a bakery! So easy and so good. You could even get your kids involved in making these. (Find the recipe here.)
These are my top 5 dessert recipes. Of course I have others, (you can find some others here) but I’ll share more another time! In the meantime, happy baking!

Nothing like a hot cup of coffee in the morning or a hot cup of cocoa in the evening. Either way, this mug has ‘cozy’ written all over it. This mug from Robert Siegel Studio ($48) is just perfect!
Of course my list has to have a new pair of sunglasses in them! The best part is a lot of places are clearancing out their summer line up and I found these at Dresslilly for only $5.48! The ombre look is perfect for fall!

Yes, I love sitting around a warm fire. Roasting stick in hand, roasting soft marshmallows to that perfect caramelized brown on the outside. The kids don’t quite seem to have the patience for that yet, theirs seem to be more flaming torches! Either way, we always have a good time.
We also enjoy trying new combinations of s’mores as well. Yes, their is more to try than just graham cracker, chocolate and mallow! Just check out some of our favorite combinations and feel free to try them at your next bonfire.
This month, this menu is our new freebie! So please, download it, share it and use it! Download Here (It is designed to be trimmed to an 8×10″ so you can frame it.)
Have you tried any new s’mores combinations? Let me know what you and your family enjoy!
Summer is just a wonderfully busy time; taking the kids to sailing, golf and swimming lessons, trips to the library, seeing the latest movie, eating smores around the bonfire, watching storms roll through and going on nature scavenger hunts. But the best thing of summer is enjoying time with friends and family. Whether its for a party to celebrate someone or something or just having dinner together, its always great to get together.
It’s also nice to show appreciation and generosity as well, so here are a few gift giving ideas for your favorite host/hostess, your favorite kid or your favorite person!
This is such an adorable charm bracelet from Alex and Ani!
Here’s a little something for your favorite pooch!
